Director and Founder of Menopause Care NZ
About Us
Menopause Care NZ was founded by Dr Wai Tze Cheng in 2024 to provide holistic support to address the physical, emotional and psychological aspects of the menopause, with tailored evidence-based care.
Dr Cheng is a certified Menopause Specialist with the British Menopause Society and is also an experienced UK qualified GP. She has worked as a doctor within the NHS for over 16 years in the UK. She worked as menopause specialist at the West Middlesex University Hospital, London for 4.5 years, treating women with complex medical problems and difficult to treat menopausal symptoms, that required careful monitoring and adjustments of HRT regimens or non-hormonal treatments.
Dr Cheng qualified from Imperial College, London in 2007 with an Intercalated BSc in Neuroscience and a medical degree. She worked as an anaesthetic registrar, working in intensive care, theatres and obstetric anaesthesia, where she gained her passion for women’s health. During her General Practice training, Dr Cheng completed Obstetric and Gynaecology placements.
She built her knowledge and competencies by gaining her Advanced Certificate in menopause and undertook training at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital London Menopause clinic, under Professor Nick Paney (current President of the International Menopause Society and ex-President of the British Menopause Society). Dr Cheng has also presented menopausal work at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology world conference in 2021.
Dr Cheng is passionate about providing the best quality evidence-based care for her patients going through the menopause, and enjoys the holistic aspects of working with patients as a GP and a menopause specialist. Education is at the core of Menopause Care NZ and Dr Cheng is committed to providing women with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their health and well-being, especially in the work place too. She has presented menopause educational sessions to the House of Commons, Credit Suisse, Barclays and many other corporate companies based in the UK and America.
When not at work, Dr Cheng loves spending time with her husband and two children, exploring new places, tramping, learning to cook and walking on the beach.
What Makes Us Different?
Understanding menopause isn't just about medical know-how, it's about empathy, about seeing each woman's journey as a unique narrative. We know that menopause can be a time of confusion, where your body seems like a stranger and your emotions a whirlwind.
It's not just about the physical symptoms – the hot flashes, the sleepless nights, or the sudden mood swings. It's about the feelings of uncertainty, and sometimes, the loneliness that can accompany this life transition.
Our mission at Menopause Care NZ goes beyond providing medical treatment. We aim to be your partner, guiding you through this phase with a holistic approach. Whether through hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or non-hormonal treatments or natural menopause solutions, we tailor our care to your unique needs and preferences.
We also believe in informed choices, so we emphasize menopause education, empowering you with the knowledge to make the right treatment decisions.
We listen, we understand and we care.
